Sankofa Day #5: Studio GRAND OPENING | Dance Classes

IT'S A GRAND OPENING EVENT!! COME CELEBRATE AND DANCE WITH US in STUDIO 128!!! 

We will be opening our own dedicated studio in Florence. They say the 3rd time is the charm and as this will make my third studio I am looking forward to staying in one place for awhile :) 

SANKOFA DAY is our approach to education and dance using the Ghanian principle of Sankofa, "taking from the past what is good & bringing it into the future." 

I am combining two events that were originally separate. No dance experience needed. No partner needed as we will change partners so that everyone gets to dance. 

Salsa Fuego: Salsa Shines and Styling (2:00)

A deep dive into Salsa's history, dance, & culture, this workshop will conclude with a short performance by attendees. You will learn fundamental body movement, shines/styling & cultural roots.

What are shines and styling? Shines are footwork that can be added to your Salsa Basic to add a little fun and musicality. Styling is fancy movements you can do with your hands and body to enhance Salsa movement. 

Afro Cuban Salsa and Bomba y Plena (3:00-6:00)

We welcome back Jose and Luz for another fun and beautiful dance experience. A deep dive into Afro Cuban Dance & Bomba y Plena (from Puerto Rico) this class will focus the history, dance, & culture. This workshop will include choreography and conclude with a short performance by attendees.

Children (5 years - 11 years)

First child is free with paying adult. Additional children are $10 each.

Light refreshments will be served. Everyone is encouraged to go out to dinner together before we head over to Local Motive Brewing for our monthly Afro Latin Social from 7:00-10:00.
